Working with a Pattern

Well, not actually working with a pattern, but using a sewing pattern on your card. Do you ever have one of those "why am I just now thinking of this?" moments?

Chase and I were washing my car Sunday, and I was cleaning a few things out of the trunk. My grandmother had given me a ton of old patterns and material to use. I guess one of the patterns had fallen out in my truck. As soon as I got it out I thought, "why haven't I used this on a card yet?" And that's exactly what I did:

I actually used two different section. The background paper is from the instructions in the pattern. The messy pinwheels are from the actual pattern. That lightweight tissue paper is great to use to make embellishments! Plus sewing and patterns seem to be all the rage these days, and since I can't sew this is a perfect use for me!

Paper: Sewing Pattern (Simplicity)
Cardstock: Vintage Cream (Papertrey Ink)
Stamp: One the Desk (Cornish Heritage Farms)
Ink: Onyx Black (VersaFine)
Ribbon: Navy Grosgrain (Offray); Ivory Crochet (May Arts)
Buttons: Cream (Papertrey Ink)
Thread: Ivory Heavy Duty (Coats and Clark)

Okay so what do you think? Do you have an old pattern laying around! I'd love to see your project if any of you break out patterns!

I ONLY sew on cards - so I wouldn't have any patterns around - LOL Looks like you made the flowers out of the same paper. Patterns are cool though - like kraft tissue paper sorta. Clever, you are!

Fabulous idea, patterns have so many interesting things that go on with their type and images, etc. And I like the monochromatic feel of your card as well.

Girl what a great idea! I love it when a light bulb goes off in my head too! I can not sew either. I was not gifted with that talent but what a great way to incorporate sewing products in your card.

It would be really cool to use the front of a vintage pattern (1940's-1950s) for the front of the card too - particularly for Mother's Day!

I LOVE this, Courtney! I wish I still had some patterns. I donated them a few years ago since I was only using my sewing machine to hem or fix existing clothes. I should ask my mom to mail me an unwanted pattern.

LOL!!! What will you think of next?!?! I have plenty of patterns...I guess I will have to decide which one I am really never going to make. I am always a little over ambitious when it comes to sewing. Sew many projects, sew little time!

I can't believe it--I said I needed a pattern about three months ago to my grandma--I wanted to use it just like you did for a submission...of course, when she got here (for her vaca) she didn't give me one! I can't believe we had the same idea--although, your stuff always is more creative and prettier than mine! So all ends well:) Great stuff:)

so unique!!! during the PTI blog hop, someone was using old pages from an old hymn book!! I've been using my old poetry book from college for script paper...I need to dig out some of my old patterns now too!! Love this idea :)
